Follistatin

Follistatin is a secreted glycoprotein that binds and neutralizes ligands of the TGF-β superfamily, most notably myostatin (GDF-8) and activin. In-vitro and preclinical research literature characterizes this high-affinity sequestration as antagonism of myostatin signaling and modulation of activin-dependent and TGF-β-dependent pathways. Preclinical gene-transfer studies in animal models report muscle hypertrophy, attenuated fibrotic signaling, and effects on activin-regulated follicular development.
