Glutathione

Glutathione is an endogenous tripeptide (γ-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) and the principal intracellular thiol redox buffer. Research literature characterizes it as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidases and a conjugation substrate for glutathione S-transferases in phase-II reactions. In-vitro studies describe its role in maintaining the GSH/GSSG redox ratio and scavenging reactive oxygen species. Its cysteine thiol group mediates these reactions.
