Melanotan 2 is a cyclic lactam heptapeptide analog of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone and a non-selective agonist across the melanocortin receptor family (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R). In-vitro and preclinical research literature describes MC1R-mediated activation of melanocyte cAMP signaling and eumelanin synthesis, together with central MC3R/MC4R engagement. It is the structural parent from which the cyclic heptapeptide PT-141 (bremelanotide) is derived.
