SS-31 (elamipretide) is a mitochondria-targeted, aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide that concentrates on the inner mitochondrial membrane. In-vitro and preclinical research literature describes its selective binding to cardiolipin, where it is reported to stabilize electron-transport-chain supercomplexes, preserve cristae architecture, and support oxidative-phosphorylation efficiency.
