Tesamorelin is a stabilized analog of growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH 1-44), modified with an N-terminal trans-3-hexenoyl group that increases resistance to enzymatic degradation. In-vitro and preclinical research literature characterizes it as an agonist at the GHRH receptor on pituitary somatotrophs, stimulating endogenous growth-hormone secretion and downstream synthesis of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). Preclinical studies describe associated changes in lipid metabolism at the cellular level.
