Thymosin Alpha-1 (Tα1) is an N-terminally acetylated 28-amino-acid peptide corresponding to a fragment of the larger precursor protein prothymosin alpha. It was originally isolated from thymosin fraction 5, a preparation derived from thymic tissue, and is now produced synthetically for research use. The peptide is highly conserved and acidic, and its N-terminal acetylation is a defining structural feature. It is studied as an immunomodulatory reference peptide.
