Overview
BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-amino-acid sequence corresponding to a partial fragment of the human gastric juice protein BPC (Body Protection Compound). It is a stable, water-soluble peptide that does not occur naturally as an isolated fragment; the sequence is produced synthetically for research use. It is frequently studied as a reference peptide in models of endothelial and fibroblast behaviour.
Mechanism as studied
The research literature characterizes BPC-157 principally through the VEGFR2–Akt–eNOS signaling axis. In cultured endothelial systems, exposure is associated with receptor phosphorylation, nitric-oxide pathway activation, and downstream changes linked to endothelial proliferation and capillary-tube formation. Additional in-vitro work describes interaction with the FAK–paxillin pathway in fibroblast migration assays, and modulation of growth-factor receptor expression in tendon-derived cell cultures.
