Overview
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the endogenous immunomodulatory tetrapeptide tuftsin, extended at the C-terminus with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence that improves enzymatic stability and prolongs its activity. The Pro-Gly-Pro extension reflects the same stabilizing strategy used in the related peptide Semax. It is produced synthetically as a water-soluble reference peptide for research use. It is studied as a regulatory neuropeptide in models of neurotransmitter and neurotrophic signaling.

The research literature characterizes Selank through modulation of GABAergic and serotonergic neurotransmission in neuronal systems. In-vitro and preclinical work describes its influence on the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and inhibition of enkephalin-degrading enzymes, which prolongs the activity of endogenous enkephalins in neural tissue.
