Overview
SNAP-8 is a synthetic acetylated octapeptide, designated acetyl octapeptide-3, structurally an elongated analog of the cosmetic hexapeptide acetyl hexapeptide-8 (argireline). It is a water-soluble peptide produced synthetically and studied primarily in cosmetic-science and neurotransmitter-release contexts. Its N-terminal acetylation and eight-residue length distinguish it from the shorter parent sequence. It serves as a reference peptide for research into the presynaptic exocytosis machinery.
Mechanism as studied
The research literature characterizes SNAP-8 through competition with SNAP-25 for a binding position within the SNARE protein complex at the presynaptic terminal. In cultured cell systems, this interaction is reported to destabilize SNARE assembly, attenuating calcium-dependent vesicular fusion and the release of acetylcholine from presynaptic terminals. The mechanism is described as interference with the exocytotic apparatus rather than receptor binding. Reported activity is documented at the cellular level in vitro.
Research context
Contexts in which this compound appears in the in-vitro and preclinical research literature:
- Cosmetic-science literature: peptide penetration and topical formulation studies.
- SNARE-complex assays examining SNAP-25 competition and complex stability.
- Cultured neuromuscular and neuronal models of calcium-dependent exocytosis.
- Comparative work against the parent hexapeptide acetyl hexapeptide-8 (argireline).

Handling & storage
Supplied lyophilized for laboratory reconstitution, typically in bacteriostatic water to the working concentration required by the assay (e.g. 2 mL into a 10 mg vial → 5 mg/mL). Add the diluent slowly down the vial wall and swirl gently; do not shake or vortex. Aliquot after reconstitution to minimize freeze–thaw cycles.
Store sealed lyophilized vials at −20 °C protected from light; refrigerate reconstituted material at 2–8 °C and minimize repeated freeze–thaw.
Certificates of analysis
Independent and in-house certificates published for this compound. Each reports identity and HPLC purity for the tested lot.
Order Snap-8
Lot-traceable, certificate-backed, and shipped cold-chain from the US.
